Nankana Sahib District (Urdu: ضِلع ننكانہ صاحِب) (Punjabi: Shahmukhi: ضِلع ننكانہ صاحِب Gurumukhi: ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ) is a district in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Nankana Sahib is the seat of the district government, and Shahkot is the largest urban center. The district of Nankana Sahib is located about 75 kilometres (47 mi) west of Lahore and about 55 kilometres (34 mi) east of Faisalabad.
Administration
The area around Nankana Sahib was formerly a tehsil of Sheikhupura District. In May 2005, the Punjab government decided to raise the status of Nankana Sahib to that of a district[1] as a way of promoting development in the area, and investment from Indian Sikhs.
Mian Shahbaz Ahmed Advocate High Court
In this district 14 Km away from the city a village namedChak no 4 (G.B) Mian Shahbaz Ahmed Advocate High Court also belongs to this famous village he is Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim Leauge Lawyers Forum Division Lahore
District development
The possibility of the development of a university, named after Guru Nanak, has been raised.[2]
The Punjab government decided to link Nankana Sahib District with the provincial capital, Lahore. With these plans the Punjab government is completing "Khanqah Dogran Interchange" (on the M-2) very swiftly, which is a helpful project to develop the newly created District of Nankana Sahib. This will also give access to the Grand Trunk Road, which leads to the Indian Punjab from the Wagah border. Recently, a Nankana Sahib-Amritsar bus was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India.[3]
