Najim Abdullah al-Jubouri is an Iraqi Major General in the Iraqi security forces and the commander of the Nineveh Operations theater during the ongoing Iraqi Civil War. He is currently in command of Iraqi Army forces attempting to oust forces Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant from the Nineveh Governorate during the ongoing Battle of Mosul (2016).[1][2][3][4]

Background

Najim Abdullah al-Jubouri is a veteran of the Ba'athist Iraqi Army. Jubouri was at one point the mayor of the city of Tal Afar from 2005 to 2008, and assisted coalition forces in counter-insurgency operations.[5] After that, he moved to the United States in 2008[6] but returned to Iraq later in 2015 after living in Virginia for eight years.[7]
