Mustafa Zaman Abbasi (born 8 December 1936)[2] is a Bangladeshi musicologist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. Abbasi was the youngest son of folk singer-composer Abbas Uddin Ahmed.[3]

Works

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi has published more than fifty books in total. His latest book is on the Bangla translation of the Holy Quran titled Sposhto Jyoti,available in <www.sheiboi>. His most noted publication is in Bangla from Ananya Publications,titled `Muhammad Nam' the life history of Hazrat Muhammad (SWT). He has published two volumes on Bhawaiya music with staff notation of about 1,200 songs.[2] He has published one English book on poet Kazi Nazrul Islam from IUB. It is titled `Nazrul Islam,man and poet'. He is currently a Research Scholar in the Abbassddin-Nazrul chapter of IUB.He has published books on the translations of jalaluddin Rumi, selected poems titled `Jugolbondi' with wife Asma Abbasi, lifesketh `Jeebon Nodeer Ujane', `Abbassddin, shilpi o pita', books on his life with Roatary International;, Experiences in Japan, Bangla novel and collection of articles published in Daily Prothom Alo (newspaper).He has published 50 research papers on traditional music and culture.[2][4]

Personal life

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi is the third son of maestro Abbasuddin Ahmed , popularly known as the Emperor of Folk Songs of Bengal. He was born in Cooch Bihar where his predecessor brother Mustafa Jamal died when only four years' old. His eldest brother Mustafa Kamal was the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. His youngest and only sister Ferdausi Rahman is a playback singer.[5] He is married to Asma Abbasi.His daughters are Samira Abbasi and Sharmini Abbasi.[6]
