Murgitroyd is an international Intellectual property attorneys headquartered in Glasgow, specialising in patents, trade marks, designs and copyrights. The firm was established in 1975 by Ian Murgitroyd, and currently has 17 offices worldwide and over 260 employees.

History

Murgitroyd was founded as a sole practitioner practice in Glasgow, Scotland by Ian Murgitroyd in 1975. The firm became a partnership in 1977 and was incorporated in 1993. It is currently a standalone private limited company owned by a holding company, Murgitroyd Group PLC, which has been traded on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange since 2001.[1] Ian Murgitroyd is the Chairman of Murgitroyd and his son, Edward Murgitroyd, is the CEO of the firm.[2]

Murgitroyd is the sponsor of the Murgitroyd Twenty20 cricket event.

Offices

Murgitroyd has 14 offices in Europe—in the UK, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Switzerland—and direct representation rights in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Luxemburg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Furthermore, the firm also has two client liaison offices in the United States and a further office in Nicaragua specialising in patent searching, after an acquisition deal in June, 2016.[3]

Industry rankings

Murgitroyd Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys were ranked in the top tier of the Managing Intellectual Property IPStars 2016 guide in Scotland. Murgitroyd features in The Legal 500 (UK) directory and the Chambers & Partners directory and has also gained ISO accreditation and a gold status ranking from the Intellectual Asset Management Patent 1000.[4]
