Mubarakpur is a city and a municipal board in Azamgarh district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 13 km north-east of the district headquarters in Azamgarh.The place is famous for the manufacture of "Benarasi Sarees" (wearing for women), which are also very popular and exported to many countries in the world.
It was settled, in the name of Raja Mubarak Shah, a Sufi of Manikpur Karaa, by a sheikh landholder.

Geography
Mubarakpur is located at 26°05′N 83°17′E / 26.09°N 83.29°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 69 metres (226 feet).
History
During the 15th century (575 Years Back) Raja Mubarak Ali Shah from Kheta Sarai Jaunpur visited the place and laid the foundation of Mubarakpur.
Earlier the town was called Qasimabad, after a Muslim landlady Qaseema Bibi. Qasimabad was frequently invaded by kings of neighboring areas and also severely affected by frequent floods from River Tauns. King Mubaraksha stopped the invasions and developed the area.
Though there is no exact historical data on how handloom weaving been started in Mubarakpur, we know that during the 14th century, cotton weaving began, according to ancient Vedic and Buddhist literature. Government gazettes report that Raja Mubaraksha's entourage had many families whose profession was weaving. It is speculated that they started weaving saris and other dress material during the 16th century.
The famous writer Ibne Batuta (of the late 17th century) wrote that very high quality dresses that were made in Mubarakpur were exported to various countries through Delhi.

Demographics
The total population of Mubarakpur is 109,939. Mubarakpur is about 80 percent Muslim, 15 percent Hindu, and 5 percent other religions.
Economy
During Sultan Muhammad Bin Shakaib Tuglak's Era (14th Century), there were reportedly 4000 silk sari weavers in Mubarakpur. During his regime, people from neighboring areas like Purasofi, Saraiyya, Rasulpur Area Sikri, Mustafabad took up weaving as profession.
With the changing times, the products of Mubarakpur have also changed from Sangi, Galta, Jamdani, and Raw cotton made products.
But in the 1940s there is a great change in the area as the graph of making Silk Saris has soared to greater heights, which have received national and international fame with the active involvement of traders of Banaras.
The early 90s saw the invasion of power-looms in the adjoining regions like Mau, which is gradually reducing the handloom sector in the region.
Today Mubarakpur, is known for its Saree and the dress material. The most famous area of Mubarakpur is Islampura and Ali Nagar.
