Mangalsen is a Municipality and headquarters of Achham District in the Seti Zone of western Nepal. The municipality was established on 18 May 2014 merging with existing Janalibandali, Kuntibandali, Oligau, Jupu and Mangalsen VDCs.[1][2] At the time of the 1991 Nepal census, the town had a population of 7185 living in 1404 houses.[3] At the time of the 2001 Nepal census, the population was 8901, of which 45% was literate.[3]

It had been the scene of fighting between Maoist rebels and government forces during the Civil War[4]
