The rolling stock preserved on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is used to operate trains on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR), a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, England. There is a variety of preserved steam and diesel locomotives and diesel multiple units, passenger coaches and goods wagons. Some are owned by the railway itself but most are owned by various individuals or voluntary groups. The line is also regularly visited by locomotives based elsewhere. Some come for a day on a railtour, others for a few days or weeks to take part in a special gala, but a few stay for many months and form part of the stock working scheduled trains.

Notes

  1. The locomotive can haul trains on Network Rail, only on the 6 miles (9.7 km) of the Esk Valley Line from Grosmont to Whitby. Whitby to Battersby via Grosmont during special events.
  2. Some mainline certified locomotives are not permitted to run on the line to Whitby due to various technical reasons, which may include: high axle weight exceeding the bridges maximum load on this route; the route's curves are too tight and may damage the locomotives driving wheels, etc.
  3. Certified for full mainline use on the National Network besides the Whitby to Battersby sections.
  4. Loco not permitted to operate over the mainline due to flange less centre driving wheels & route curves being too tight which could cause a derailment.
  5. Loco awaiting certification.

Built 1944. 44806 began its preserved life at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway where it operated for a short time in 1973 before being taken out of traffic for repairs, she was also during her time at Haverthwaite named after the TV Series Magpie. The locomotive moved to the now-defunct Steamport museum at Southport and later the Museum of Science and Industry (Manchester) in 1983. Ten years later she arrived at The Llangollen Railway where she returned to steam in 1995 and operated for ten years until 2003 when she was withdrawn for overhaul, she returned to steam 4 years later in August 2007 but her Magpie nameplates weren't re-fitted. To mark Kenneth Aldcroft's 35 years of owning 44806 she was renamed after her former owner by his daughter, Ms Renee Wyatt. In 2013 the locomotive was put up for sale by its owner and after sale to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and taking part in a farewell event she was moved by road from Llangollen in January 2014 to the NYMR.

She is presently only allowed to operate between Grosmont and Pickering due to her not having mainline equipment fitted but she will be certified for mainline use after the completion of her next overhaul which is due in 2017. The loco is presently running with a loaned tender from the Great Central Railway's black 5 no 45491 until her own tender is repaired with a new tender tank.
