  2. Competitive football was abandoned three games into the new season and all results were annulled.
  3. In the League Cup's early seasons, some major clubs opted not to enter the competition. Forest did not enter between 1962-66.
  4. The Premier League was created before the 1992-93 season, replacing the First Division as the highest tier of English football. The First Division became the second tier.
  5. The First Division was rebranded as The Championship prior to the 2004-05 season.
