List of Cincinnati Bearcats head football coaches

The Cincinnati Bearcats football team represents the University of Cincinnati in the American Athletic Conference. The Bearcats have played football since 1885 under more than 30 head coaches, including interim coaches, and have played in more than 1200 games in their 130 seasons. Collectively, the Bearcats hold a 599-574-50 record (.510), with the best non-interim record under Thomas F. Fennell (9-1-1, 0.864) and the worst, a winless season, under three different coaches.

Currently, Tommy Tuberville is the head coach of the Bearcats; 2016 will be his fourth year in that position. Seven coaches have led the Bearcats to a postseason bowl game: Ray Nolting, Sid Gillman, Rick Minter, Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones, and Tuberville.

Notes

  1. Although the first Rose Bowl Game was played in 1902, it has been continuously played since the 1916 game, and is recognized as the oldest bowl game by the NCAA. "—" indicates any season prior to 1916 when postseason games were not played.[1]
  2. A running total of the number of head coaches, with coaches who served separate tenures being counted only once. Interim head coaches are represented with "Int" and are not counted in the running total. "" indicates the team played but either without a coach or no coach is on record. "X" indicates an interim year without play.
  3. Overtime rules in college football were introduced in 1996, making ties impossible in the period since.[2]
  4. When computing the win–loss percentage, a tie counts as half a win and half a loss.[3]
  5. Statistics correct as of the end of the 2015 college football season.
  6. The American Athletic conference started divisional play in 2015. Cincinnati has not been eligible for a divisional championship before then.
  7. Cincinnati did not field a team during 1943 and 1944 due to World War II.
