Lipso Nava

Lipso Vladier Nava (born November 28, 1968) is a Venezuelan Minor League Baseball manager.[1] On December 15, 2015, Nava was appointed skipper of the 2016 San Jose Giants, a high-A class affiliate of the San Francisco Giants Major League Baseball club.[2]

In 2016, Nava entered his ninth year in the Giants organization.[2] Previously, Nava managed the Class-A Augusta GreenJackets in 2011 and 2012, after spending three years as its hitting coach from 2008 to 2010. Under his helm, the Augusta’s 2011 team won the second half South Division title in the South Atlantic League and qualified for the playoffs.[3]

Nava later served as hitting coach for San Jose from 2013 through 2015, in addition to a stint as the club’s acting manager during the final month of the 2015 season.[3]

Born in Maracaibo, Zulia,[1] Nava is a former third baseman. Listed at 6' 1", 190 lb., Nava batted and threw right handed.[1] He played 16 years of professional baseball from 1990 through 2006, including seven seasons in the Seattle Mariners (1990-1994), Boston Red Sox (1995) and Chicago Cubs (1997) minor league systems, advancing as high as Triple-A.[1] Nava also saw action in the Mexican League and independent Texas-Louisiana League and Atlantic League circuits before retiring at the end of the 2006 season.[1] He was originally a 14th round selection of the Mariners in the 1990 MLB Draft out of Miami Dade College.[3]

In between, Nava played winter ball with five different teams of the Venezuelan League, appearing in a span of 16 seasons from 1991–2006.[4]
