Lee Hong-bin (Hangul: 이홍빈, born September 29, 1993),[1] most often credited as Hongbin (Hangul: 홍빈), is a South Korean singer and actor, signed under Jellyfish Entertainment. Hongbin debuted as a member of the South Korean boy group VIXX in May 2012,[2] and began his acting career in 2014 in SBS's romantic drama Glorious Day as Yoo Ji-ho.[3] He has since had a leading role in KBS2's fantasy action-romance Moorim School (2016) as Wang Chi-ang.

Early life

Hongbin was born and raised in Jayang-dong, Seoul, South Korea. His family consists of himself, his parents and two older sisters. Hongbin studied Musical major at Dong-ah Broadcasting College.

Career

2012-2013: Debut with VIXX

Hongbin was one of ten trainees who were contestants in Mnet's survival reality show MyDOL and was chosen to be a part of the final line-up and the 6-member boy group finally debuted with "Super Hero" on May 24, 2012[2] on M! Countdown.[4] During MyDOL; Hongbin was featured in Brian Joo's "Let This Die" and Seo In-guk's "Tease Me" music video. The "Tease Me" music video was shot alongside actress Son Eun-seo.[5][6][7]

In 2013, Hongbin appeared in episode 4 of SBS's television drama The Heirs alongside his group members.

2014-2015: Acting debut and MC-ing

In 2014, Hongbin was cast in his first television drama in a supporting role as Yoo Ji-ho alongside Rainbow's Go Woo-ri in SBS's Glorious Day.[3] in the same year Hongbin and N appeared as backup dancers in K.Will, Mamamoo and Wheesung's "Peppermint Chocolate" music video.[8]

On March 3, 2015, Hongbin joined T-ara's Jiyeon and Super Junior-M's Zhou Mi as MC on SBS MTV's The Show from March 3, 2015 to October 13, 2015.[9] In September 2015, Hongbin was cast in his first lead role as Wang Chi-ang in KBS2’s action-romance drama Moorim School.[10][11]

2016–present: Moorim School and web drama

Moorim School began airing on KBS2 from January 11, 2016. In the drama Hongbin plays the troublemaker Wang Chi-ang alongside actor Lee Hyun-woo. On January 18, 2016 VIXX released their first original soundtrack recording for the fantasy action-romance drama Moorim School with the song “Alive” the drama’s main theme song, released in Moorim School OST Part. 1. Viewers of the drama have shown positive responses to the refreshingly edgy theme song. It was revealed that VIXX hoped to express their support for Hongbin’s first drama lead role as the troublemaker Wang Chi-ang by contributing to the soundtrack.[12][13][14] On February 1, 2016, Moorim School OST Part. 2 was released with the title song "The King" by VIXX.[15][16] In September, Hongin was cast alongside fellow VIXX member N and AOA’s Chanmi in the web drama What’s Up With These Kids? which will air on Naver TV Cast on November 16.[17]
