Vulcano is an auxiliary ship that will enter in service with the Marina Militare in 2019.[5]
It's designed to support fleet operations with fuel and dry stores. With another future sister ship, has expected to replace Stromboli (A5327) and Vesuvio (A5329) AORs.
Vulcano was financed with 2014 Naval Law,[6] for Euro 346 millions.
Design and construction
Vulcano is under built by Fincantieri at the Riva Trigoso Naval Shipyard, with hull number 6259.
Vulcano is designed as a support ship able to supply a large squadron at sea.
As such, she has the capability to:
- refuel ships
- produce fresh water
- carry cargo
- Hospital NATO Role 2 LM [7]
- repair at sea with a few maintenance workshops
She has a cargo capacity of up to:
- 5,695 tonnes (6,700 mc) of NATO F76 diesel fuel
- 3,000 tonnes (3,700 mc) of NATO F44/JP5 aviation fuel
- 800 tonnes of fresh water
- 220 tonnes of ammunitions
- 40 tonnes of meals (30,000 food rations)
- 3 mc of gasoline in barrels
- 15 tonnes of lubricant in barrels
- 20 tonnes of solid goods
- up to 8 x ISO1C containers (28 t eachone)
