KhalifaSat

KhalifaSat is a remote sensing Earth observation satellite currently being developed by Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). When launched, KhalifaSat will be the third United Arab Emirates (UAE) satellite to be in orbit. The satellite will be used by United Arab Emirates government in its projects and by the private sector for various commercial uses.[1] The satellite will be capable of capturing industry standard detailed imagery. The satellite is the first to be constructed in the UAE by a 100% Emirati team.[2] According to current plan of MBRSC, the satellite will be launched in 2017 by a Mitsubishi launch vehicle.[3]

Overview

KhalifaSat will be capable of capturing detailed high-resolution optical images at 0.7 m Panchromatic and 4 m at multi-spectral bands. The satellite features 146 structural and 87 electronic modules. It will also have a 27 GB storage capacity with maximum data transfer speed at 320Mbit/s. KhalifaSat imagery will be used for urban planning, ship detection and mapping.[4][5][6]
