Kattupakkam
Kattupakkam is a suburb of the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India.
Location
It is located 20 kilometres from Fort St George on the Mount-Poonamallee Road. The nearest bus depot is at Iyyappanthangal which is one kilometre from Kattupakkam, while the nearest railway station is at Guindy, eight kilometres away. Kattupakkam is near to the Mangadu Amman temple. Tiruverkadu Karumari Amman Tenmple is about 5 km from here. The famous Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute is about two kilometers.
Important landmarks
Kattupakkam has a number of temples, mosques and churches. The Sri Vada Chendur Murugan Temple at Kattupakkam is one of the oldest Hindu temples built in Chennai city. Pillayar kovil in the sendurpuram main is another old temple near chendurpuram main road. Lot of churches are there in this area. An overhead tank is a famous in this place. Lot of cricket grounds in kattupakkam plays an important landmark in this area. The "Thenaimaram" ground is famous of all.
Dr.BR.Ambedkar statue is famous in kattupakkam which is located in K.K.nagar. many bike and car showrooms are in kattupakkam.
The most important landmark is the Sri Ramachandra College and Research Institute which was opened in 1994. Since investments in housing gained ground in India in 2004, a number of major residential developments have been created in Kattupakkam. This builds on the residential character given to this area by AUDCO Nagar, named after an engineering company that has offices towards the East. A newer housing development is Jeeva Nagar, which was approved by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority in 2003.
