Kara Project was a 2014 South Korean reality television programme, starring South Korean girl group Kara. After the departure of two members (Nicole & Jiyoung), the show was created to find a replacement. Seven participants (Heo Youngji, Ahn Sojin, Jeon Somin, Kim Chaewon, Cho Shiyoon, Yoon Chae Kyung and Yoo Ji) competed for the opportunity to be the next new Kara member. It aired on MBC Music from May 27, 2014 on Tuesday at 18:00.[1][2][3][4][5]

On July 1, 2014, Heo Youngji was proclaimed as the winner of the competition and new member of Kara.[5][6]

On February 24, 2015 Kara Project participant, Ahn Sojin was found to have died in an apparent suicide one month after DSP ended their contract with her. She had been a trainee for five years before her entry into the Kara Project.[7][8][9][6]
