Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service for educational institutions that provides students and faculty access to a large collection of films.[1]

History

Kanopy launched in 2008.[2]

Interface

Kanopy provides each subscribing institution with a dedicated and customizable website through which their users can access and watch films. Features include captions, transcripts, clip creation, and playlist creation.[3]

Kanopy’s administrative dashboard provides librarians with information about viewing habits and budget usage. Librarians have tools available to analyze viewer behavior, adjust budgets and spend, and manage licenses and MARC records.[4]

Business Model

Students at participating universities and colleges can access Kanopy films free for personal and academic purposes. Institutions pay for the films their students and faculty watch on a per-view basis.[5]

Device Support

Kanopy videos can be viewed on a range of devices and platforms including Apple, Android, and Windows
