KVSS (102.7 FM) is a radio station which rebroadcasts the Catholic format of KVSS (FM).[2] Licensed to Papillion, Nebraska, USA, the station serves the Omaha area.

The station was granted a construction permit to change city of license from Lincoln to Papillion, and transmitter site from Lincoln to Gretna. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the sale of 102.7 FM to KVSS in late December 2008, and the station went on air with the new signal on January 29 and moved to a Gretna tower and began broadcasting June 9, 2009. KVSS is a non-profit, listener-supported radio station.[3]

History

In 1999, VSS Catholic Communications, Inc. purchased 500-watt signal from an existing local radio station and immediately began broadcasting a mix of contemporary Christian music and Catholic programming from the EWTN Radio Network on the 88.9FM frequency. Additional programming followed from St. Joseph Communications, Catholic Answers, Ave Maria and Starboard Communications. After broadcasting for 10 years on a small signal, VSS partnered with Kolbe Media, a group of people committed to Catholic Radio in the Lincoln, Neb., community. On January 29, 2009, Spirit Catholic Radio purchased a new 50,000-watt signal on 102.7 FM and expanded to reach both the Omaha and Lincoln communities, as well as over 1 million potential listeners throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.[4]
