KLEI-TV (digital RF channel 25) is the Hawaii affiliate of The Family Channel,[3] owned by Mauna Kea Broadcasting. KLEI serves the west side of the island of Hawai`i, and is licensed to Kailua-Kona.[4]

KLEI also provides local programming geared towards Filipino, Hispanic and native communities.[5]

The station serves a 7954 square mile area, and covers an estimated population of 71,400.[6] Reception is also available in Maui County, Hawaii [7] using a rooftop antenna.[8]

History

The station went on the air in 1988[1] as KVHF, and changed its call letters to KLEI on March 9, 1992.[9] The station was at one point affiliated with Ion Television and its predecessors, i and Pax TV; KLEI was one of two Ion affiliates in Hawaii, along with Ion-owned KPXO-TV.[1]

On October 19, 2012, KLEI was granted statewide "Must Carry" status on the Oceanic Time Warner Cable and Hawaiian Telcom cable services, provided it delivers a good quality signal to the cable television headends.[10] The station is currently only available on cable in West Hawaii.[11]
