KFBZ is a radio station operating in Wichita, Kansas, and licensed to Haysville, Kansas as "105.3 The Buzz". The station airs a Hot AC format and it is owned by the Entercom Communications. The station's studios are located at Central Avenue and Webb Road in eastern Wichita, while the transmitter is located outside Colwich, Kansas.

The station mainly plays music from the 1990s to present (with a heavy emphasis on recent music) and is the local affiliate for Kidd Kraddick in the Morning.

History

What is now KFBZ signed on the air on August 25, 1985 with an Adult Contemporary format as KXLK, and later evolved into a Hot AC direction as "Mix 105". In October 1996, the station flipped formats to Smooth Jazz as KWSJ "105.3 The Oasis". This gave Wichita its first Smooth Jazz station since the late 1980s, when KLZS "Magic 98" (now AC KRBB) left the air. In March 2000, KWSJ moved its Smooth Jazz format briefly to KANR-92.7, then to 98.7 (Now Talk KNSS-FM). This was to make room another Country station in Wichita: KWCY "Y-105". The format only lasted just 8 months. In November 2000, the Country format was dropped when the station started stunting playing theme songs to TV shows before finally flipping to an all-80s hits format as KFBZ "105.3 The Buzz" on November 17, 2000, at 1:30 PM. The first song on "The Buzz" was "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.[1] The station had great success with this format. In January 2002, KFBZ switched into its current Hot AC format. In 2007-2009, KFBZ aired Christmas music for the holiday season. However, beginning in 2010 (and years following), the station has not played Christmas music.

In early 2015, the radio station will move to the Ruffin Building at 9111 East Douglas, formerly the Pizza Hut headquarters.[2]
