Julie Maroh is a French writer and illustrator of graphic novels, who originates from Northern France. She wrote Blue Is the Warmest Color (Le bleu est une couleur chaude) about the life and love of two young lesbians, which has been adapted in the award winning film Blue Is the Warmest Colour by Abdelatif Kechiche.[1][2]

After having obtained an applied arts baccalauréat at E.S.A.A.T in Roubaix, Maroh continued her studies in Brussels, where she lived for eight years. She got two diplomas there, in Visual Arts (comics option) in the Institut Saint-Luc and in Lithography/Engraving at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts of Brussels.[3]

Julie Maroh started writing Blue is the Warmest Color when she was 19 and it took her five years to complete it.
