Jennifer Stone (/ˈdʒɛnɪfər ˈstoʊn/ JEN-i-fər STOHN; born February 12, 1993[1]) is an American actress. She is known for playing Harper Finkle on the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, and the main character of Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars.

Early life

Stone was born in Arlington, Texas. She began acting at the age of six in local theaters after seeing her older brother rehearse for musicals at a local theater, after their parents threatened to punish him for staying inside too often. While doing theatre, Stone would attend nursing homes to put on musical revues for senior citizens. At around age nine, Stone's mother began to bring her to auditions.

Career

Stone was first cast as Martha in Secondhand Lions, for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination.[2] She recalls only having recognized Michael Caine from Miss Congeniality while on the set of Secondhand Lions. Stone also received a Young Artist Award nomination for her guest appearance on House, M.D.[3] She guest appeared on Line of Fire and Without a Trace.[4] She starred in a Disney Channel pilot which also starred Vanessa Hudgens and Moises Arias, but it was cancelled before ever airing. In February 2007, she was called back by Disney to be a part of the main cast of Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place. Stone initially auditioned for the role of Alex Russo, but it was requested by the director that she read for the part of Harper, which she eventually ended up playing. She had a tutor while on set, and has claimed that the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place is "like a second family" to her. Stone also wrote an advice column for Tiger Beat Magazine, where she answered questions asked by teenagers.

In 2009, she had a voice role in the Disney Channel Original Movie Dadnapped. She also lent her voice to Phineas and Ferb as the voice of Amanda, Candace's daughter in the future in 2 episodes. In 2010, she played Harriet in the film Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars, based on the book of the same title by Louise Fitzhugh, which she later admitted she had not read before starring in the film. She later starred in the film Nothing Left to Fear and the television film High School Possession.

Personal life

As of 2013, Stone is attending Glendale Community College courses during her spare time in order to get an associate's degree in nursing.
