Janak Joshi[2] (born in Ahmedabad, India) is an American politician. Since January 9, 2013, Joshi has been the current representative for District 16 at the Colorado House of Representatives. He previously served a two year term in the District 14 seat from January 12, 2011 until January 9, 2013, at which time Colorado was re-district'ed.

Education

Joshi earned his MS from the University of Northern Colorado and his MD from Gujarat University.

2016 Republican Primary for House District 16

Rep. Janak Joshi was the only nominee at the March 26, 2016 caucus in his current seat for House District 16. However, he will still face a primary challenge from a former state representative who got his name officially on the ballot by having enough valid signatures in his petition drive.[3]

In Colorado, candidates can get on the ballot for state offices either by gaining at least 30 percent of the vote at the state caucus assemblies, or by collecting enough signatures from eligible registered voters in their district. The petition route is considered an expensive alternative to the preferred route of caucus nomination ... a "back door".
