James Plaintain

James Plantain (or Plaintain), also called "King of Ranter Bay", was a Jamaican-born English pirate and leader in Madagascar. In 1715, Plantain established a base of operations at the harbour, a few miles north of St. Mary's Island, and in time established his own fiefdom after gaining control of the island. In fear of rebellion, he fled the island in 1728. He was briefly entrusted the significant responsibilities of the chief gunner's post by Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre of the Maratha navy in India.
