James Thayer Addison (1887–1953) was an American Episcopalian teacher, chaplain during World War I, and writer.[1][2]

Early life and education

Addison was born on March 21, 1887 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.[1] From 1900 to 1905, Addison attended the Groton School. He graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1909.[1]

Career

He was ordained as a minister in 1913.[1]

From 1918 to 1919, he was the chaplain for the 1st Gas Regiment, American Expeditionary Forces in France.[1]

He wrote many books on Islam and Buddhism, including the second major English language study of the Ahmadiyya movement after Howard Walter. He also wrote a unit history for the 1st Gas Regiment.[1]

Personal life

He married Margaret B. Crocker on December 18, 1917.[1]
