Indian states and territories ranked by safety of women

This is a list of States and Union Territories of India ranked according to safety of women as on 2012. The list is compiled from the 2012 Crime in India Report published by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Government of India.The rank is calculated according to the rate of Assaults on Women. The assault rate represents number of incidents charged with Assault on Women with intent to outrage her modesty (Section 314 of the Indian Penal Code) per 1,00,000 of the female population. Regions where assault on women are lower, have better ranks and are considered safer for women.

According to National Crime Records Bureau data, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala and Odisha ranked worst with the highest rate of assaults on women, while the safest state for women in India is Bihar[1]
