Ila Bêka

Ila Bêka (also Ila Beka or Ilabeka) is a contemporary Italian artist, filmmaker and producer living in Paris.

Life and career

He trained as an architect with a degree from the IUAV of Venice and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville.

Since 2005 he has been working in collaboration with Louise Lemoine with whom he founded the research and creation platform Bêka & Partners. Presented by The New York Times as "cult figures in the European architecture world",[1] Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine mainly focus their research on experimenting new narrative and cinematographic forms in relation to contemporary architecture.[2] Koolhaas Houselife, the first film Ila Bêka co-directed with Louise Lemoine in 2008, has been acclaimed by the international critique as "The architectural cult movie".[3]

Ila Bêka has been invited to lecture and present his films in many international cultural institutions and prestigious universities such as Venice Biennale (2008,[4] 2010, 2014[5]), MoMA (New-York), Centre Pompidou (Paris), Palais de Tokyo[6] (Paris), Barbican Art Gallery[7] (London), Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montréal), NAi (Rotterdam, NL), MAXXI[8] (Rome), SALT (Istanbul), Harvard GSD, Architectural Association School of Architecture (London).

In 2016 Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine's complete work (16 films) has been acquired by MoMA, Museum of Modern Art in New York, and is now part of his permanent collection.[9] "The acquisition of a complete work by the Moma it's an extremely rare event for a living artist". [10]
