I Am a Ghost, is a 2012 American horror film directed by H.P. Mendoza. It debuted at the 2012 San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.[1]

Plot

During an indeterminable time period, Emily (Anna Ishida), a troubled ghost who died, haunts her own Victorian house every day, wondering why she can't leave. With the help of Sylvia, (Jeannie Barroga), a clairvoyant hired to rid the house of spirits, Emily is forced into a 'patient/therapist' relationship, uncovering disturbing mysteries about her past that may help her move on to 'the next place'.

Budget

The film cost roughly $10,000 with a substantial amount of it raised on Kickstarter, $7500 of which was for actual production.[2]

Critical reception

In the year end wrap up, SF Weekly said of I Am a Ghost, "Real horror...if every first effort in a genre is this good, we encourage his restlessness."[3] while Tim Sika of the San Francisco Film Critics Circle called it "Brilliant. Like Kubrick, Bergman, Hitchcock and Fincher combined."[4]

In a more mixed review, while Dennis Harvey of Variety called it "Haunting. Cleverly conceived [and] artfully crafted" he makes note that the film is "a bit of a slog at times getting to the point at which the suspense kicks up a few notches."[4]
