The Honda PCX is a scooter developed by Honda. It was produced by Thai Honda Manufacturing in Thailand until 2013, starting from 2014 it is produced by Honda Vietnam. Honda PCX was first introduced for sale in November 2009.[2] In 2012, the original engine was redesigned to decrease friction, increasing efficiency, and the displacement was increased to 152.9 cc.[3] The new engine is based on Honda's eSP (Enhanced Smart Power) design.[4] Honda continues to produce the 125 cc version (with eSP) for export to select markets,[5][6] such as Europe, where local licence requirements favour this engine displacement.
Technology
The global version of the Honda PCX is equipped with an idling stop system, which automatically shuts off the PCX when stopped.[7] This feature is not included on the US model due to safety concerns.[8] To prevent excess wear on a separate starter motor, Honda PCX uses its alternator by supplying power to the stator (see Brushless DC electric motor). As a result, engine start is completely muted.[9]
