Upon introduction, the Avancier was available with a 2.3 VTEC four cylinder (150 hp) mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 3.0 VTEC six cylinder engine (215 hp) mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It can be had with a front-wheel drive or the Honda's real-time all-wheel drive system. The V6 Avancier can be optioned with an Intelligent Highway Cruise Control (IHCC) that used a radar to determine and maintain a reliable distance with the car in front and capable to maintain a speed.

However due to the large engine displacements, the Avancier was considered as a mid-size in Japan instead of a wagon, the dimensions also contribute to such classification by Japan.

Honda stopped the production of Avancier by 2003 due to the disappointing sales.

It is now a large and sporty SUV, joint-developed with Guangqi Honda. The new Avancier rivals the near luxury crossovers including Toyota Harrier and Nissan Murano. It is positioned above the CR-V and XR-V and will serve as the flagship SUV.

This MKII Avancier is powered by the 2-litre VTEC Sport Turbo (268 hp/370Nm)[4] with a ZF 9-speed automatic transmission and the 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine and a CVT, the same engine found in the MKV Honda CR-V and Honda Civic.
