Hollaphonic are an electronic music duo based in Dubai, UAE, comprising Greg Stainer and Olly Wood both originally from the UK. They were the first dance music duo to be signed to a major record label in the Middle East[1]

Biography

Their first single “I Don’t Want It To End” was released in Feb 2013 was ‘A’ listed on all national radio stations in the UAE and went straight to No.1 on iTunes.[2][3]

Greg Stainer has had two Gold Discs, a discography of over fifty productions and remixes on record labels such as Hed Kandi,[4] CR2, Toolroom Records, Stealth, Armada Music, Pacha Recordings and Universal as well as a full-length solo Album "6mil 2headphones". Wood had been writing songs and performing as an MC in the South Coast UK Garage scene and then around the UK and abroad with the likes of Dub Pistols [5] Wood has worked to establish a United Arab Emirates music industry with improved publishing rights for artists in the region,[6] and was selected by Gulf Business as one of “The top 30 under 30 businessmen in the Middle East”[7] for his further work behind the scenes committed to defining a unified and internationally acclaimed Middle East music scene.

Hollaphonic became the first middle eastern act to be featured, and their video shown, on MTV Dance[8]

March 2013, Hollaphonic performed their first gig together live in front of a crowd of 40,000 at the Dubai World Cup Night at Meydan Racecourse alongside Seal. In December that year, Hollaphonic performed on the main stage along with headliners Calvin Harris, The Prodigy and Disclosure at Creamfields Abu Dhabi.

March 2014, they received ‘Best Dubai Act’ at the honorary Time Out Dubai Night Life Awards. They also won ‘Trendsetters of 2013’ by Ahlan! Hot 100 and ‘Man At His Best 2013’ at the Esquire awards.

November 2014 they performed at the Formula One after-race concert at du Arena on Yas Island on the same bill as DJ Armin van Buuren [9]

Performing to a sell-out crowd ahead of David Guetta at the Live at Atlantis concert On Friday 19 December, Hollaphonic, posed with an audience of 12,000 for Ahlan! at Atlantis, The Palm Beach taking the UAE’s biggest ever selfie.[10]

Hollaphonic became the first Middle East artist to be featured on the BBC website with their own reference page.[11]

Their debut album "Personal Space" held the No.1 and No.2 spot from pre-order to release with both the standard and limited edition releases [13]

In 2015 their unreleased and unsigned track "Surrounded By Bass" had a Top 20 position on the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) BUZZCHART.[14] They were also played on BBC Radio 1 with MistaJam and Capital FM by Coco Cole. This track went on to be released on UK label "Yosh" in 2016 managed by the UK Bass group "Foor".
