Elbrus.[3][6] On September 22nd, 1994, Zimmer became the first deaf woman to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro.[7][3] She has also won a bronze medal in the Deaf Olympics.[3] She graduated from Gallaudet University in 1978.[1]

In 1996, Zimmer was diagnosed with Usher's syndrome.[8]
