Harishchandrapur I (community development block) is an administrative division in Chanchal subdivision of Malda district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Harishchandrapur police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Harishchandrapur.[1]

Geography

Harishchandrapur is located at 25°25′N 87°53′E / 25.42°N 87.88°E / 25.42; 87.88. It is located on the north of malda district and surrounded by Bihar on the north, Harishchandrapur II on the west, uttar dinajpur on the north east and Kharba block on the south and South East.

Harishchandrapur I community development block has an area of 171.40 km2.[2]

Gram panchayats of Harischandrapur 2 block/ panchayat samiti are: Kushida, Boroi, Rashidabad, Tulshihata, Bhingole, Mahendrapur and Harishchandrapur.[3]

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Harishchandrapur I CD Block had a total population of 199,493 all of which were rural. There were 103,183 males and 96,310 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 49,069 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 4,142.[4]

Literacy

As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Harishchandrapur I CD Block was 88,591 out of which 50,196 were males and 38,395 were females.[4]
