Happy to You is the second studio album by Swedish indie pop band Miike Snow. It was released in the United States on 13 March 2012 by Downtown Records and Universal Republic Records, and in the United Kingdom on 19 March 2012 by Columbia Records.

Production

The band announced via Facebook on 30 May 2011 that they were working on a new album to be released in the fall. On 20 July 2011, the band announced via Twitter that their new record label INGRID founded by Miike Snow, Peter Bjorn and John, Lykke Li, and Dungen was now open for business.[12]

On 6 October 2011, the band announced via Twitter that they had begun mixing their new album, and that new music would be released by the end of the year.[13]

On 29 November 2011, the band announced via Facebook that the album is complete, the videos are being shot, the artwork is being finished, and the tour dates are being planned.[14]

On 20 December 2011, the band announced via Facebook that their second full-length album, Happy to You, is set to be released the week of 26 March 2012. They also said that there will be no upcoming information on the track titles, singles, or anything involving "Devil's Work".[15]

On 19 January 2012, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe premiered "Paddling Out", the first single from the album.[16] Subsequently, the band released the song online and also announced concert dates for their North American tour.[17] At the same time, the track listing and album cover art of Happy to You were revealed via Amazon UK.[18]

On 24 January 2012, another song from the album called "Black Tin Box" (a collaboration with Swedish singer Lykke Li) was presented at Pitchfork.[19]

On 13 March the band released the album, thirteen days ahead of the original 26 March release date, on iTunes.

Commercial reception

In the United States, the album debuted at No. 43 on the Billboard 200 albums chart,[20] with around 10,000 copies sold on its first week of release. It also debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard's Rock Albums chart,[21] and No. 9 on the Alternative Albums charts.[22] The album has sold 42,000 copies in the US as of January 2016.[23]

Singles

The first single to be taken from the album was "Paddling Out", released on 19 January 2012, which debuted on Radio 1 in the United Kingdom.[16]

On 15 March, the video for "The Wave", the second single from Happy to You, was released. It was once again directed by Swedish director Andreas Nilsson, who also worked on the video for "Paddling Out". Both videos form together a unified story about a group of unfortunate humans who were abducted to space in an experiment to create a perfect human named Jean Noel. After some pretty brutal chainsaw surgery that is performed on the latest abductee, the spaceship seemingly manned by classical-era twins crashes to Earth and that is where the story of the second video starts.
