Haigh Hall Miniature Railway

Santa Special on the Miniature Railway

Haigh Hall Miniature Railway is a 15 in (381 mm) Miniature railway, situated in the grounds of Haigh Country Park in Haigh, Greater Manchester.[1] The railway officially re-opened on 20 April 2014. The railway operated trains for the first time under a new operator in late July 2013,[2] running shuttle services between two stations; Haigh Hall North and Haigh Hall South, the full 1 mile circuit was re-opened shortly after this in early 2014. The railway already existed as it was opened for the first time in 1986 under a different set of operators; the railway runs over the same track layout, but some alterations have been made over time.

HHMR's two resident locomotives are known as Helen and Rachel, these two locomotives have been a part of the railway for some time. The Railway recently took delivery of two new locomotives; The Cub (otherwise known as John) on loan to the railway for a general overhaul and running in and ex-CCLR KD-1. Both locomotives are in various states of running order, however KD-1 is now a long term restoration project for the railway.

KD-1 previously known as the Rapido Railcar is under a fast-track overhaul from a standing state to a fully operational locomotive, the three other carriages from the railcar set are not to be restored as they are beyond a repairable state, thus are being stripped of parts in order to make KD-1 serviceable as a locomotive and what is left of the railcar will be used as flat wagons for the railway's p-way train.

The railway runs passenger services 11am - 4 pm Saturday, Sunday, Bank Holidays and School Holidays. Tickets to ride on the railway cost £1 for all ages and free for under 2 year olds.
