History

The college was established in 1956. Hasan Mian Advocate was the founder of this college. It was shifted to the new building in 1962 and was nationalized in 1973. The college was bifurcated into two independent and separate colleges having separate establishment offices, teaching and administrative staff, in 1973. Both colleges are in same building and classes are commonly shared, but offices are not. Science College is in the morning shift and Arts & Commerce classes are conducted in the evening; Government Islamia Science College Sukkur (morning shift) and Government Islamia Arts & Commerce College & Post Graduate Studies Centre Sukkur (evening shift). It is one of the biggest educational institutes of upper Sindh, Pakistan.

The development of Islamia College began in 2014 as the new digital laboratory was completed and inaugurated by Khurshid Shah.

Location

Situated in the heart of the city, the building stands on a prominent hill. Government Islamia Science College Sukkur, and Government Islamia Arts/Commerce College Sukkur and Post Graduate Studies Centre Sukkur are housed in the same building. The Science college functions in the morning while the Arts/Commerce college serves in the evening.

The college building stands on Minara Road, at the cross section of New Sukkur and Old Sukkur. There is a PAF Selection and Recruitment Centre and Masoom Shah Library in front of the main entrance. The Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Office is at a little distance. The building of Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan and State Life Insurance Corporation is a two-minute walk. At the back side is the Session Court.

Building

The building of Islamia Science College Sukkur has six laboratories, two each for chemistry and physics, and one each for zoology and botany. The staff common room is adjacent to the chemistry Laboratory on the first floor. The combined classes are held on the second floor.

The office of the principal and ministerial staff are on the left side of the building. The auditorium and gymnasium are on the ground floor. There is a beautiful mosque on the college premises. The library is adjacent to the newly constructed Commerce Block.
