Getmii is a social marketplace app created by Max Meyer, Darryl Lau and Matthias Juergens. Users can post needs they have to a proximity-based news feed, on which others can comment, react with an emoji or send private messages anonymously or through their profiles, which are populated from Facebook. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

History

Getmii's founders originally sought to create a logistics app in Bangkok, Thailand. Early in the process, the April 2015 Nepal earthquake resulted in a national blood shortage and soaring demand for blood donors (among most necessities) in Nepal. Getmii's founders pivoted slightly from their initial project to an app where users could post any need. Getmii coordinated a pilot test with the Red Cross Central Donation Center in Nepal on September 10, 2015. The daily number of bloody donors tripled as a result during the pilot. [1][9][10]

Getmii had its first launch on mobile app stores in September, 2015. The company works out of the Harvard Launch Lab in Boston and The Opus Tower in Bangkok, Thailand. [1][4][11][12][13]

Features

The Need Feed

The "Need Feed" displays a list of posts sorted by proximity. From this, the "Need Feed" serves as the application's home screen and changes constantly as posts expire and new ones are added.[14][15][16][17]

Emoji Reactions

Users can react to comments on needs by selecting which emoji embodies their sentiment towards the comment. They can select from the full emoji keyboard while posting a reaction. The emoji reactions users receive show up on their profile.

Followers

Users can ask their friends if they’re willing to do anything for them. It’s another way to follow users and get notified when they post a need. The number of people who will do anything for a user appears on their profile and on their photo when they post a need.

Groups

Getmii groups allow users to make a private group with their friends or another subset of people. Needs can be posted directly to groups where the needs are only sorted by time posted rather than the location-based algorithm on the need feed.
