Gautam Mitra

Professor Gautam Mitra is a research scientist in the field of Operational Research, particularly computational optimisation and modelling. He holds the position of Distinguished Professor at Brunel University.[1]

He has published three books and over hundred refereed research articles. He was the Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Brunel University between 1990 and 2001. In 2001, he has established CARISMA: The Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Optimisation Modelling Applications. CARISMA specialises in the research of Risk and Optimisation and their combined paradigm in decision modelling. Professor Mitra is a Director of OptiRisk Systems UK and OptiRisk India. Many of the research findings of CARISMA are exploited through these companies.[1]

Mitra has over 40 years' of experience in Mathematical Programming Modelling, Operational Research, Computational Optimisation, Stochastic Programming and Risk Decisions in Finance. He is a Distinguished Professor at Brunel University where he holds a personal chair in Computational Optimisation. He has a PhD from London University and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, India.[1]

He has held academic positions at the Institute of Computer Science London University and subsequently at Brunel University, West London, where he was Head of Department of Mathematical Sciences and is now the Director of CARISMA - The Centre for the Analysis of Risk and Optimisation Modelling Applications.[2]
