Gajner is a small town located 37 kilometers from the city of Kanpur in the Kanpur Dehat district of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.


History

Gajner is very ancient town. It was founded by Chauhan. Gajner is a connecting link of Kanpur, Ghatampur, Musanagar and Pukhrayan. it is a main crossing of all above places.

Geography

The land comes in Doab region of Uttar Pradesh. Some parts here are rugged and are not suited to cultivation and agriculture. Gajner is 129 m above sea level. Holy river Yamuna is near about 17 km south of the city.

Climate

Climate is very tropical and in summers it reaches to around 49.5 C.There is very scanty rainfall here.

Summer season : Summers are hot and high temperatures are to be expected. Temperatures range from a minimum of 23° C and can rise up to a maximum of 40° C.

Monsoon or Rainy season : Monsoon in Gajner sets in mid June and last until September. Rains appear between July and September almost at the end of regular monsoon season. Some rainfall is recorded during the harvest season of March–April.

Winter season : Winter in Gajner can get extremely misty with temperature levels plummeting really low. Temperature ranges from 33°C to 9°C.

What to wear : Loose cotton clothes for summer and heavy woolen clothes in winter.

Culture

Traditional clothing

Women traditionally wear shalwar kameez, gagra choli, sari. Dupatta is worn to complete the outfit. Men traditionally wear kurta.In urban centres and as well as rural areas western influence can easily be seen nowadays.

Cuisine

Wheat forms the staple diet of North India and is usually served in the form of roti or chapatis along with subzi (vegetarian curry dishes). A vegetarian diet is the norm almost everywhere.

Communities

All the villages near by Gajner are Hindu community. Gajner is predominantly Rajputs and includes various ethnic groups such as Brahmins, Ahirs, Banias, Dalits and Muslims.

Festivals

People celebrate Holi at the end of winter, on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalgun (February/March), (Phalgun Purnima), which usually falls in March, sometimes in late February. The second festival of Gajner is Dussehra on this day Gajner Municipality holds a fair on the grounds of the Ram leela Maidan. People comes to enjoy and celebrate from villages around the town. The third and biggest festival celebrating in Gajner is Diwali. Diwali is a five-day festival which formally begins two days before the night of Diwali, and ends two days thereafter. Each day has the following rituals and significance: Dhanteras (Day 1), Naraka Chaturdasi (Day 2), Lakshmi Puja (Day 3), Balipratipada (Day 4), Bhai Duj (Day 5).

Demographics

As of 2011 census Gajner had apopulation of 5000.Males constitute 52% of population and females 48%. The average literacy of Gajner is 67% lower than national average literacy of 74% with 77% of males literate and 58% of women literate. Around 17% of population lives under 6 years of age.


Transport

Distance from Kanpur Central Railway station to Gajner via Kalpi road is 44 km and travelling time by car is 57 minutes. The UPSRTC serve the roadways busses from Kanpur Central to Gajner and travelling time by bus is 1 hour 15 minutes. The Town is well connected by four way roads. Four road tracks run through Gajner. The first route connecting National Highway 2 at Raipur with Musanagar is passing through centre of the town covering distance of 35 km. this route is passing through the Petrol Pumps, Rasulpur Gogumau railway station, HPCL India, Power House Sarvankhera. Rasulpur Gogumau Railway Station is on the railway line connecting Jhansi with Kanpur. The second route connecting Nabipur to Ghatampur is passing through centre of the town covering distance of 38 km. The villages, Police station and industries are located on this route. Kausam, Tilaunchi, Jainpur industrial Area are towns in this route. Tilaunchi Railway Station is on the railway line connecting Jhansi with Kanpur. Jhansi-Lucknow Passenger and Jhansi-Kanpur Passenger are among the main trains that pass through this station.
