Erin Bethea (born August 12, 1982) is an American actress. She is known for appearing in Sherwood Pictures' films, Facing the Giants and Fireproof.[1]

Personal life

Bethea is the daughter of Michael and Terri Catt.[2] Her father, Dr. Michael Catt, is the senior pastor at Sherwood Baptist Church,[3] an affiliate of Sherwood Pictures.[4] Her mother, Terri Catt, was the Wardrobe Coordinator for both Facing the Giants and Fireproof.[5] Her sister, Hayley Catt, is a still photographer,[6] production secretary, and website coordinator for Fireproof.[7]

In 2004, Bethea received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre at the University of Mobile.[7]

Bethea married Bill Shafer on Oct 16, 2009 and the couple was divorced in 2014.

Professional career

Erin Bethea is a professional actress born and raised in South Georgia. Born with a love of performing, she began her career after graduating from the University of Mobile with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. She made her screen debut in a small role as sportscaster Alicia Houston in the surprise success Christian film Facing the Giants.[8]

In pursuit of a career in live theatre, she went on to work as a performer for Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL where she spent nearly 8 years appearing in various shows across property and became a member of the Actors' Equity Association. During her time at Disney, her career took a major and unexpected turn back toward film as she was cast in the lead role of Catherine Holt in the hit film Fireproof opposite veteran actor Kirk Cameron. The #1 Independent movie of 2008, Fireproof opened at #4 in the box office. The week following the film's opening, Bethea was the #4 searched for actress online according to Yahoo.com - joining a list of such names as Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Megan Fox. The film also inspired a New York Times Bestselling book "The Love Dare", and has sold millions of DVDs around the world.[8]

Since Fireproof's massive success, Bethea hosted two seasons of the Emmy Award Winning television series "OMX: On Mission Xtra" and has appearing in nearly a dozen films including the Emmy Nominated The Heart of Christmas, which aired to record-breaking ratings on GMCtv. She has also starred in the films Amazing Love (opposite Sean Astin), This Is Our Time (alongside Eric Roberts), The Redemption of Henry Myers (with business partner Drew Waters), and currently provides the voice of "Maggie" in the animated DVD series Iesodo (pronounced YAY-Sa-Doe).[8]

Currently, Bethea is busy with more feature films preparing to be released, including Atlar Egos, a comedy also starring Robert Amaya (Courageous). She has also founded a production company, Argentum Entertainment.[8]

Bethea recently completed production on her most personal project to date New Life (film) - a feature film that she co-wrote, produced and starred in. The film also stars Jonathan Patrick Moore Terry O'Quinn James Marsters Bill Cobbs Barry Corbin Irma P Hall Kelsey Formost and Kris Lemche and was directed by Drew Waters.

Bethea currently resides in Los Angeles, California.[8]
