EUFIC

The European Food Information Council (EUFIC) is a Brussels-based non-profit organisation. It was established in 1995 to provide science-based information on food safety, food quality, health and nutrition to the public. EUFIC is supported by companies of the European food and drinks industries, the European Commission and Foundations.

Purpose

The European Food Information Council (EUFIC) is a non-profit organisation which communicates science-based information on nutrition and health, food safety and quality, to help consumers to be better informed when choosing a well-balanced, safe and healthful diet.

With its main offices located in Brussels (Belgium), EUFIC counts on and liaises with a European network to enhance the impact and outreach of its communication instruments and programmes in other countries.

EUFIC is supported by companies of the European food and drinks industries, and receives project funding from the European Commission and foundations.

Food safety and nutrition topics

EUFIC provides science-based information on a variety of food topics, food safety & quality, food technology, nutrition, healthy lifestyle, diet related diseases (like obesity, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes), as well as consumer insights related to nutrition and food safety. EUFIC’s main audience includes health professionals, educators, media and consumers.

EUFIC publishes a bi-monthly newsletter called Food Today, available in 11 languages. Another regular EUFIC publication, Science Briefs, provide an overview of new scientific publications on topics of nutrition and health and food safety and quality that may be of interest to EUFIC readers. EUFIC also hosts Cool Food Planet, a website for 6-12 years old to learn about healthy diet and lifestyle and food safety.

Projects

EUFIC takes part in a number of EU-funded research projects: FOOD4ME, NU-AGE, Chance, RECAPT, inprofood, CONNECT4ACTION, EuroDISH, CLYMBOL and, since recently, DIVERSIFY and MyNewGut.

EUFIC is an active member of Directorate General Health and Consumers "EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health".
