Distributel is a Canadian telecommunications company. Their services include a wide range of high speed Internet products with unlimited download, including Internet services by cable, DSL and FTTN (fiber optic). Distributel also offers Internet telephone lines (VoIP), the long distance packages and IPTV.[1]

History

Distributel was founded in 1988 by Mel Cohen, he had to fight his debut against the telecommunications giant Bell Canada who did not forward to the possibility that a company can offer long distance services through its distribution network. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) will ultimately succeed Distributel in this folder, which will set a precedent by opening the way to competition in the long distance market in Canada.[2][3]

The company has since adding to its portfolio of Internet services, Internet telephone (VoIP) and IPTV offered over 200,000 subscribers.[4] In 2014, company partnership with Zazeen to sell DSL and cable Internet services.[5]

In 2011, Distributel acquired Acanac. Acanac currently provides High Speed Internet and VoIP services throughout Ontario and Quebec.

On 31 March 2014, Matt Stein joined the team Distributel as President and CEO, while Mel Cohen maintains his role as president.[6]

In September 2016, Distributel acquired Yak Communications from Globalive.[7]
