Dimitris Daskalopoulos

Dimitris Daskalopoulos is a Greek businessman and art collector. He is currently the Chief executive officer of Vivartia the largest food conglomerate in Greece and the 35th biggest corporation in Europe. The merged entity formed from the synthesis of Delta Holding S.A of which he was the largest shareholder and Chipita of which Spyridon Theodoropoulos was the largest shareholder.[1][2]

Daskalopolous is also a major collector of contemporary art. His collection has been the subject of major exhibitions at the Guggenheim Bilbao ("Luminous Interval") and the Whitechapel Gallery.[3][4] Among the works in his collection is David Hammons' "Flight Fantasy" (1996) which he has now given a second name "Stathis Logothetis" as shown at National Gallery of Scotland in the 2012–2013 exhibition 'Death to Death and Other Small Tales".[5] This being a work which was sold to Daskalopoulos after having been reproduced from an original version which resided in the East Village of New York City at the home of the writer Steve Cannon and therein the originality of the object was transferred after the work had been created for a second time or recreated for a first.[6]

Daskalopoulos is a trustee of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City and a member of the Tate Museum's International Council and the New Museum's Leadership Council.[7][8]
