Dibyendu Barua (দিব্যেন্দু বড়ুয়া) (born October 27, 1966) is a chess Grandmaster from the city of Kolkata (Calcutta) in the Indian state of West Bengal. He is the second Indian to become a Grandmaster, after Viswanathan Anand. In 1978, Barua, as a 12-year-old, became the youngest participant in the Indian National Championship of chess.[1] In 1982, Barua defeated the then world number two Grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi in London.[2] In 1983, he won the national championship for the first time. Barua was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1991 by FIDE.
