Darbhanga Rural (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: दरभंगा ग्रमिण विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is an assembly constituency in Darbhanga district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is an open seat from 2010 but was earlier reserved for scheduled castes.

Overview

As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 82 Darbhanga Rural (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Manigachhi community development block; Nazra Mohammada, Adalpur, Atihar, Balha, Bijuli, Chhotaipatti, Dhoi, Dularpur, Ghorghatta, Kharua, Khutwara, Loam, Muria, Nainaghat, Sonki and Bhalpatti gram panchayats of Darbhanga CD Block.[1]

Darbhanga Rural (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 14 Darbhanga (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]

Election results

1977-2010

In the 2010 state assembly elections, Lalit Kumar Yadav of RJD won the Darbhanga Rural assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Ashraf Hussain of JD(U).[2] Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Pitambar Paswan of RJD defeated Ram Chandra Paswan of JD(U) in October 2005, Suniti Ranjan Das representing LJP in February 2005 and JD(U) in 2000. Mohan Ram of JD defeated Asharfi Ram of BJP in 1995. Jagdish Chaudhary of JD defeated Ram Chandra Paswan of Congress in 1990. Ram Chandra Paswan of Congress defeated Jagdish Choudhury of JP in 1985. Jagdish Choudhary of Janata Party (Secular – Charan Singh) defeated Jagdish Paswan of Congress in 1980. Jagdish Choudhary of JP defeated Kedar Paswan of Congress in 1977.[3]
