Clarence Eugene Hancock (February 13, 1885 - January 3, 1948) was an American congressman.

Biography

Born February 13, 1885 in Syracuse, New York, Hancock graduated from Wesleyan University in 1906 and New York Law School in 1908. His father was Theodore E. Hancock, New York Attorney General from 1894 to 1898.

Hancock represented New York in the House of Representatives as a Republican from 1927 to 1947. When Hancock represented the 35th district from 1927 to 1945, it included the city of Syracuse and all of Onondaga and Cortland counties. Before Hancock's reelection in 1944, New York was redistricted; the 36th district, which Hancock represented from 1945 to 1947, then became coextensive with Onondaga County.

Hancock died January 3, 1948 in Washington, D.C., aged 62. He was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse.

Legacy

Syracuse Hancock International Airport is named after him.
