The Municipality of the District of Chester is a municipal district in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Occupying the northeastern half of Lunenburg County, the district's administrative seat is the village of Chester, located at the Municipality of the District of Chester[3] offices at 151 King Street, Chester, Nova Scotia.

Districts

The Municipality is broken up into seven districts and each has a councillor that represents that particular area. The districts and the areas they cover are as follows;

Departments and Services [11]

The Municipality offers a variety of services to the community and has multiple departments to help serve the community.

Community Development Department is broken up into the following;[12]

Finance Department is responsible for the financial administration of the Municipality as well as providing services which include; financial reporting, tax exemptions, address changes, tax billings and payments, budgets and financial statements.[13]

Information Services Department provides communication and business continuity services.[14]

Public Works Department is responsible for providing services which include, Animal Control, Boat pump out, municipal sewer connections, municipal engineering/specifications, municipal roads and removal of dead marine life.[15]

Solid Waste Department is located at Kaizer Meadow Environmental Management Centre[16] and provides services which include; Kaizer Meadow Eco-Industrial Park, bi-weekly waste removal, semi-annual collection of bulky waste, annual collection of Christmas tree and yard waste and disposal of hazardous waste, construction and deolition materials, tires and septic waste.[17]

Chester Connection and Aspotogan Trail

There is 46 kilometers of trail from Martins River to Hubbards that is operated by the Municipality of Chester located on the former railway. The trails are open to walkers, off road vehicles, cyclists and horseback riders.[20]

Municipal Parks, Playgrounds and Open Spaces

There are many parks and outdoor areas within the municipality for the public to enjoy including Anvil Park in Chester Basin, East River Property, Village of Chester Gazebo, Wild Rose Park in Western Shore and the Green Gym Park in Chester Basin.[21]

The Municipality also has two nicely maintained playgrounds; Croft Road Playground located in Chester Basin and Gold River Playground located at the former Gold River Elementary School.[22]

Within the Village of Chester there is a skate park that was opened in 2009 after five years of planning and fundraising.[23]

Community Schools [24]

The Municipality has two schools that are also used for community use and open to the public. These schools are Forest Heights Community School (FHCS)[25] which is located in Chester Grant and Aspotogan Consolidated Elementary School (ACES) [26] which is located in Mill Cove. These schools were developed as Community School from the beginning starting in 1992 for FHCS and 2000 for ACES.

Other schools located in the Municipality include Chester Area Middle School,[27] Chester District Elementary School [28] and New Ross Consolidated School.[29]
