Case Construction Equipment (CASE) is a brand owned by CNH Industrial N.V[1][2] founded in 1842 by Jerome Increase Case.[3][4] The brand is known for producing construction equipment globally, including Excavators, Motor graders, Wheel loaders, Vibratory compaction rollers, Crawler dozers, Skid steers, Compact track loaders and Rough-terrain forklifts. The brand is also known for producing the world’s first factory integrated tractor loader/ backhoe in 1957.[5][6]

History

For a detailed history see Case Corporation History.
Power Abe

In 1842, Jerome Increase Case founded the Racine Threshing Machine Works in Racine, Wisconsin (U.S).[7][8] The company gained popularity for producing machines that were able to thresh wheat multiple times faster than the hand-powered threshing method used at the time.[9] In 1865, Jerome Case incorporated Old Abe into the trademark of the J. I. Case Corporation, which appeared on a globe in the company’s logo.[10] In 1869 CASE constructed the first portable steam engine.[11][12][13] The engine was often used to power wheat threshers.[14][15] The first engine built is currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.[16] As the company grew, in 1921 CASE started manufacturing road-building equipment. This included Graders and Steamrollers for compacting road surfaces.

In 1957, CASE built and manufactured the world’s first integrated tractor loader / backhoe. This model, the 320 Construction King, would become synonymous in the U.S. to backhoe loaders and to CASE as a brand.[17] In 1969 CASE started production of Skid Steer Loaders with the 1530 Uni-Loader model. The production began in Burlington, Iowa,[18] but later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where it continues today.[19] Currently, Case Construction Equipment produces nine Skid Steer and Four Compact Track Loader models. Engines in the Skid Steers range from 49 to 90 hp, with rated operating capacities ranging from 1,300 lbs (590 kg) in the SR130 to 3,000 lbs (1364 kg) in the SV300.[20] In 1995 CASE initiated co-branding and supply agreements with various international suppliers, which led to significant expansion of the product offering.[21][22]

In 2011 CASE continued development by introducing new technology for Tier 4 emissions standards in North America[23] and Europe.[24] This involved adopting technology paths that included cooled exhaust gas recirculation (CEGR) and Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) across its product lines. The use of multiple technologies will continue as CASE progresses towards Tier 4 Final across all equipment categories and horsepower ranges.[25] CASE is presently one of the largest construction equipment brands in the world. It currently manufactures a wide variety of heavy duty and engineering vehicles at its factories across the globe, including India, Mexico, the United States, Italy, France, Argentina, and Brazil.[26][27] Some of the company’s more popular models include: the 1150M dozer, 580 Super N Backhoe Loader, 721F XT Wheel Loader, SV280 Skid Steer Loader, CX300D Crawler Excavators, and others.[28][29] The company also produces construction equipment, including backhoe loaders, excavators, motor graders, wheel loaders, vibratory compactors, rollers, crawler dozers, skid steers, compact track loaders, and rough-terrain forklifts.[30]
