Achievements

Guinness World Record: Shortest charging time to cross the USA in an electric vehicle

From April 16–19, 2015, Rodney Hawk, Deena Mastracci, and Reese drove from Los Angeles to New York City.[1] They used a Tesla Model S P85D electric vehicle.[1] The total charging time was 12 hours 48 minutes and 14 seconds.[1]

Fastest time to cross the USA in an electric vehicle record

The April 16–19, 2015 trip also set the record for the fastest time from Los Angeles to New York City in an electric vehicle.[2][3] The total trip time was 58 hours and 55 minutes; Guinness does not track speed records on open roads; so this "record" is unofficial.[2] However, it beats previous records set by Tesla staff and a team from Edmunds.com.[2] The trip was supported by Anthony Alvarado, Johnnie Oberg, and Matt Nordenstrom.[2]

Transcontinental autonomous record

From October 18–21, 2015, Deena Mastracci, Reese, and Alex Roy set the first record for the shortest LA-NYC trip with a semi-autonomous car.[4][5][6][7][8] The trio drove from Redondo Beach, CA in route to Red Ball Garage in Manhattan in 57 hours and 48 minutes.[4] The drivers used the autopilot function of the Tesla Model S P85D for 96.1% of the 2995-mile journey.[4][5][9]

On the October 18–21, 2015 trip, Deena Mastracci, Reese and Roy also beat Mastracci and Reese's prior record of 58:55 for an LA-NYC run with an electric vehicle.[2][4][10][11]

Double transcontinental electric vehicle record

On October 22, 2015, after fewer than 28 hours in New York City after the record-breaking autonomous run, Deena Mastracci and Reese drove the Tesla P85D back to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, California.[4][12] A notary stood by to officially log the couple in; a staff member of the Portofino was witness.

The couple set the double transcontinental record for an electric vehicle (round trip LA-NYC-LA) with a time of 6 days, 6 hours, and 22 minutes; this beat the previous record set by Dan Edmunds and Kurt Niebuhrs, which was 6 days, 23 hours, and 4 minutes.[12][13]

Solo motorcycle record from Los Angeles to New York City

On August 28–29, 2015, Reese set the record for fastest solo motorcycle from Los Angeles to New York City with a time of 38 hours and 49 minutes. He departed from West Valley Cycle Sales in Winnetka, CA at 3:15 A.M.PST and arrived in Manhattan BMW Motorrad in New York City at 9:04 P.M. EST.[14][15][16][17][18] Reese insisted on notaries at both the start and finish lines, a first for transcontinental runs, who verified both his identification, engine number, odometer reading, and the VIN of the vehicle.[14] The vehicles he used were also tracked and verified by a third-party GPS tracking corporation.[14] Reese also submitted to voluntary urine analysis to prove to skeptics that his system was free of stimulants or drugs to help him achieve his endurance records.[18] The Transcontinental Drivers Association has also verified Reese's documents.[14]

Lap of Mo'orea scooter record

On March 26, 2016, Reese set the fastest lap around the island of Mo'orea in the French Polynesian Islands. He set a lap time of 48 minutes and 18 seconds driving an 8-horsepower Peugeot 125cc Tweet Scooter. The lap around Mo'orea is also known as the Coconut Cannonball 125 where participants attempt to circle the island aboard rented scooters in the shortest amount of time.[19][20]

Closest Place to the Sun on Earth to the Sea on Motorcycle in a Single Day

On September 3, 2016, Reese and Sebastain Montero were granted special access on Chimborazo in Ecuador; to set the record. The pair set the new world record for riding on motorcycles from the closest point on Earth to the sun to an elevation at sea-level in a single day. Reese and Montero reached a gain/loss in elevation of 56,678 feet during their endeavor. Chimborazo, the highest mountain which is located in the South American country. However, even at 20,548 feet, Chimborazo isn’t the highest mountain by elevation above sea-level in the world, but its location along the equatorial bulge makes its summit the closest point on Earth’s surface to the sun. Although Chimborazo is typically off-limits to motorcycles due to the remoteness of the mountain in the case of an emergency, Minister of the Interior José Serrano (Ecuadorian politician) granted Reese and his team special access to the natural wonder. The record like others Reese has set is to bring awareness to The Motorcycle Relief Project. MRP is a 501.3 (C) charity that benefits combat veterans suffering from PTSD.

On September 3, 2016 Reese set a motorcycle record on Chimborazo in Ecuador to bring awareness to the April 2016 earthquake. In co-operation with the Minister of the Interior José Serrano (Ecuadorian politician). Reese's record setting ride was to bring attention to the "Ecuador Earthquake Relief" project by Coalition of Hope a US-based 501(c)(3), and The Ride of My Life YouTube production company. The 7.8 earthquake killed 650 people people and destroyed 26000 homes. [23]
