Buckland Athletic Football Club is a football club based in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. Buckland Athletic is a FA chartered Standard Club.^[1] The club are currently members of the Western League Premier Division and play at Homers Heath.

History

Established in 1977, and started playing in the Torbay Pioneer League at Sandringham Park.^[2] The club then moved to Senior Division Three of the Devon and Exeter Football League for the 1987-88 season, and moved to Coach Road.^[3] The club immediately gained promotion as champions of Division Three.^[3] The club then moved grounds again to Decoy Park for the 1990-91 season, but two seasons later moved to Homers Lane in Kingsteignton, which later was renamed Homers Heath.^[3] The move to the new ground proved successful as the club gained promotion to the premier division of the Devon and Exeter Football League.^[3]

The club under the management of Nigel Holmes and Roger Madge, the club went on to win the Premier Division in the 1994-95 season.^[3] The club then went on to win the title again under manager Shaun Bartlett in the 1990-2000 season, which allowed the club to gain promotion to the Devon County League.^[3]

They maintained membership of the Devon County League, with a best position of second in their debut season, until 2007 when they became founder members of the South West Peninsula League.^[4] The club after finishing third in the 2008-09 season, and went on to win the title twice in a row in the following two seasons.^[5] During their first championship winning season the club also made their debut in the FA Cup, losing in a replay to Hamworthy United 3-2 at the County Ground.^[6]

After finishing as Runners-up the club then managed to gain promotion to the Western Football League for the 2012–13 season.^[7]

Ground

Buckland Athletic play at Homers Heath, Kingskerswell Road, Newton Abbot, TQ12 5JU.

The club used to play at Homers Lane, Kingsteignton, but when the lease on the ground ran out in 2005, they moved to a brand-new ground at Homers Heath on the outskirts of the neighbouring town of Newton Abbot. The ground has won twice the South West Peninsula football League award for best Premier Division ground in 2008 and 2009.^[8]
