Blackhawk Christian School, established in 1973 in northeastern Fort Wayne, Indiana, is a private K-12 school with an enrollment of approximately 750 students and is operated by Blackhawk Ministries. The school's motto is "Scholars' minds. Servants' hearts."[1] Mark Harmon is currently the principal of the middle/high school, Tim Wiegand is principal of the elementary school, while Linda Pearson is the superintendent.

Blackhawk Christian is ranked academically as one of the top schools in the Fort Wayne area. In 2009, Blackhawk Christian School was the only school in the 11 county northeast Indiana area to graduate 100% of its students (as reported in the 01/09/2010 edition of the Journal Gazette). In 2008, 93% of Blackhawk Christian students passed the ISTEP+ GQE exam. Blackhawk Christian School students' average SAT score is 100+ points higher than the state and national average. Ninety percent of Blackhawk graduates go on to some form of higher education.[2]

Athletics

Blackhawk Christian, home of the Braves, has had a history of successful athletic programs. In recent years the high school baseball program has received statewide recognition in winning class 1A state titles in 2002, 2005 and 2006. The boys basketball team, also competing in class 1A, won the sectional championship in 2008 for the seventh straight season, all under former coach Gary Merrell. The run included one state runner-up title in 2004 and regional championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The boys soccer team has recently joined in the winning ways. Under the direction of 25 year head coach and biology teacher Bob Freeborn, the Braves won their first sectional championship in the fall of 2008 then repeated in 2009. In 2015, Joseph Angelo Advanced to the High School State finals, the first ever BCS student to do so.
